Enchanting Xiamen

Xiamen is a modern metropolis by the beautiful Xiamen Bay and a city with the homiest ambience in southeast China, facing Taiwan across the sea. The city is one of the five Special Economic Zones in China. An island of beautiful landscapes, Xiamen enjoys a mild, pleasant subtropical climate featuring warm winter and cool summer. Historically known as "Amoy" in the English-speaking world, Xiamen is the gateway to southeast China and a hub of cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world. The city is nicknamed the "Island of Egrets", for it is said to have been inhabited by egrets in ancient times. Establishing harmonious relationship between human and nature, Xiamen has been awarded a string of honors, including the "UN Habitat Scroll of Honour" and "International Garden City" award. Former U.S. President Richard Nixon hailed Xiamen as the "Hawaii of the East" The integration of the long-standing indigenous Southern Fujian (Minnan) culture with modern Western culture has resulted in a unique cultural city scape. In September 2017, the 9th annual BRICS summit was held in Xiamen.

Xiamen has now transformed into a city with high standard of innovation and entrepreneurship. With the boom of new economy and new industries, Xiamen has attracted more and more investors and traders. Xiamen has also established a comprehensive sea-land-air transportation network that connects countries on five continents. Xiamen International Airport has already opened 182 flight routes, which can take you to all large and mid- sized cities in Mainland China as well as regions like Taipei, HongKong, Macau, Tokyo, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Manila, Djakarta, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Amsterdam, Sydney, Vancouver and Los Angeles. Xiamen also has high-speed rail links to all major cities in China. Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the metro system provide fast and comfortable local transportation. Xiamen International Airport is 20 minutes' drive from XMLTs Siming Campus and 30 minutes, drive from Xiang'an Campus. Xiamen enjoys strong economic, trade and cultural ties with over 200 countries and regions around the globe. It is sister city to 22 international cities and has forged friendly-city ties with 14 cities worldwide. Various elements from its sister cities have been integrated into the urban development of Xiamen, such as the "Wellington Road" and "Surabaya Road" in Wuyuan Bay. Many rare instruments on display in the Kulangsu Musical Instrument Museum are from sister cities as well. Likewise, many Xiamen elements have travelled across the oceans and been brought into its sister cities, such as the sculpture of Xiamen Marathon in the Greek city of Marathon and the sculpture of the Goddess of Egret situated in "Xiamen Park" in the Japanese city of Sasebo.

China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT)

CIFIT is the lar gest global investment event approved by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.

Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra

Since its establishment in 1998, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra has so far held more than 1,600 wonderful performances in over 90 cities both at home and abroad.

Xiamen Marathon

First held in 2003, it has been an annual event for 16 consecutive years. It currently ranks among the most influentia l a nd internationally known marathon event in China.、

Xiamen Little Egret Folk Dance Troupe

Founded in 1993, the Troupe is the first one of its kind in China. It has won great fame and honors from all walks of life for distinct folk style and unique regional features.
