【Biography】

Dr Desmond Chong is currently an Associate Professor with the Engineering Cluster of Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). He is also appointed as SingHealth Visiting Senior Academician and Visiting Associate Professor with the University of Malaya. He was a Singapore Biodesign Faculty Fellow in 2021/22. In recognition of his contribution to student learning, he was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award in SIT and the Innovative Teaching Award in NUS. His research interests are in the areas oforthopaedic and musculoskeletal biomechanics, finite element analysis and experimentation, medical devices design, and human motion analysis. He received his PhD in Biomechanics from Imperial College London, and BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University. He is an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and a senior member of The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES). He had served as the Chair of the ASME Singapore Section, District G Leader (Asia Pacific), and Chair for International Regions of the Member Development & Engagement Sector. He received the ASME Dedicated Service Award in 2022 for his voluntary service to the society.
