“Knowledge Transfer and Language Contact from the
Perspective of Global History”
The Forth Eurasian Doctoral Forum
Invitation
Time: March 25–26, 2023
Venue: Beijing
Sponsor:
Institute for Global History/School of History, Beijing Foreign Studies University
Center for Language Education and Cooperation, China
Forum Theme:
Knowledge Transfer and Language Contact from the perspective of Global History
Since the sixteenth century, human activities and experiences have opened the curtain of interaction and exchange on a global scale. Many important new issues arise in the process of globalization, including the history of scholarly exchange, of concepts, of language contact, and of knowledge transfer. These issues are named from the perspective of global history—an epistemology and methodology, which is “the quest for innovative conceptions of space and new spatial frames that break out of compartmental thinking” (Sebastian Conrad). The common concerns of the current academic circles thus include the way how to see the historical facts from the macroscopic perspective and to figure out cross-cultural phenomena from the perspective of “correlation” by transcending civilization, nation, and family. In view of this, the Institute of Global History/School of History of BFSU launched the “The Fourth Eurasian Doctoral Forum” so as to promote international and cross-regional academic exchanges among doctoral students and establish transnational academic exchanges and mutual research contacts. The theme of this forum is “Knowledge Transfer and Language Contact from the Perspective of Global History”
Since 2017, the “Eurasian Doctoral Forum” has been held three times in Beijing, Bonn and Seoul, respectively, with the participation of 6 Eurasian universities: the University of Bonn in Germany, the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, the University of Austria, the Korea University of Foreign Studies, and the Kansai University in Japan, and Beijing Foreign Studies University. It was later forced to suspend due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the full support of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC, China) in this year, we will hold the “Forth Eurasian Doctoral Forum” with four Eurasian universities including the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, the University of Bonn, Kyungsung University in Korea, and Kansai University in Japan.
